Trip Overview
What you can expect
Embark on an unforgettable journey to the Galápagos Islands, a UNESCO World Heritage Site known for its unique biodiversity.
Conservation and school teaching
Due to insufficient government funding, the Galápagos National Park is understaffed. This means that conservationists are unable to keep up with routine tasks like research and maintenance. By volunteering, you can support vital research, collect valuable scientific data, and maintain the islands’ world-famous biodiversity.
Actively contribute to vital conservation efforts, working alongside local experts to protect endangered species like the Galápagos Giant Tortoise. You’ll also connect with local communities, sharing cultural experiences and engaging young people in educational activities. Through these connections, you’ll help to raise awareness around the work being done by conservationists, encouraging the next generation to make a change.
Cultural immersion and exploration
As part of the experience, you’ll explore Santa Cruz Island, venturing into lava tunnels, observing giant tortoises roaming freely at El Chato Reserve, and visiting the Charles Darwin Research Station to gain insight into pioneering conservation initiatives.
There will also be plenty of time to wind down and explore. Snorkel in crystal-clear waters, hike through volcanic terrain, and witness the power of nature firsthand. This extraordinary journey across the three main islands of the Galápagos will leave you inspired and committed to environmental conservation.
Why choose Cambodia for your school trip?
The Galápagos Islands provide an unparalleled setting for field-based learning, where you can witness and contribute to conservation efforts in one of the world’s most important natural environments. This programme offers a rare chance to learn in a living laboratory, with structured, curriculum-enhancing experiences that bring science, geography, and global citizenship to life.
A truly unique destination – the Galápagos Islands are home to extraordinary biodiversity, with many plants and animals that can’t be found anywhere else in the world. Consequently, the wildlife here has been fiercely protected. Visitor numbers are limited, and those who enter are only allowed to leave a positive impact.
As the only volunteering organisation working with the Galápagos National Park all year round, Projects Abroad has exclusive access to the island of San Cristóbal – an island which is sparsely populated and almost entirely designated as National Park. Our groups benefit from the unique opportunity to live and work in the very heart of this extraordinary ecosystem, allowing students to see firsthand how conservation challenges are addressed while also engaging with local communities to support long-term environmental education.
