Support community development and education in the heart of North Africa

You’ll start in Rabat, a coastal city on the Mediterranean, before heading to the cultural heart of Marrakech. From there, you’ll explore what’s possible by trekking up Mount Toubkhal. At 4,167m (13,671ft), it is the highest peak in North Africa and the Arab world.

Morocco is a country of incredible sensory richness. From the intricate architecture of ancient medinas to the scent of spices in the busy souks, there is something to discover around every corner.

Map & Location

Morocco is a country of contrast, home to the snow-capped Atlas Mountains and the golden dunes of the Sahara Desert. Located in north Africa, Morocco has one of the most diverse and picturesque coastlines in the world.

Between a traditional mint tea ceremony, souks (markets) dating back over 1,000 years, and stunning public baths, Morocco is a must-see historic destination. Though steeped in tradition, Morocco is also a modern marvel, with Africa’s first high-speed train and strong environmental initiatives.

Rabat

Rabat, the country’s elegant capital, is well known for its blend of modern infrastructure and deep historical roots. Home to more than two million people, much of the city centre is a UNESCO World Heritage Site, and it is one of Morocco’s famous four Imperial Cities.

It offers a more relaxed pace than much of the nation due to its smaller tourist market, making it ideal for cultural immersion. It has a Mediterranean climate with wide, open green spaces and enough ancient ruins to keep you exploring for days.

Mount Toubkal

Standing as the highest peak in North Africa and the Arab world, Mount Toubkal is the crown jewel of the High Atlas Mountains. Remote Berber villages nestle in its valleys, with life moving to the rhythm of the seasons. Surrounded by jagged peaks and steep, terraced hillsides, this region offers a stark, majestic contrast to the humid buzz of Morocco’s coastal cities.

Life here offers a stark, majestic contrast to the humid buzz of Morocco’s coastal cities. As a volunteer, you’ll enjoy a combination of guesthouse and camping accommodation on your quest to the summit, and stunning views across the Atlas Mountains when you get there.

Marrakech

Known as the “Red City” due to its distinctive sandstone buildings, Marrakech is the cultural heart of Morocco. Here in the foothills of the Atlas Mountains, Marrakech has served as a crossroads for traders and travellers for nearly a thousand years.

Lose yourself in the winding alleys of the Medina, a UNESCO World Heritage site, where artisans craft leather goods, lanterns, and textiles. Watch the famous Jemaa el-Fnaa square transform into a massive open-air kitchen and theatre, filled with storytellers and musicians of an evening.
