How it works
Looking for the journey of a lifetime? We’re here to get you there.
Getting started is easy. You choose your project, your destination, and your dates, and we take care of the rest.
When you join us, you’ll receive:
- An educational experience you simply can’t get at home
- Human support, at every step, from our local experts and on-the-ground teams
- Safe, vetted, and comfortable accommodation with three meals a day
- A stress-free journey where we take care of the details
- A project that prioritises long-term community partnerships and locally-led goals
You’ll do more than see a culture, you’ll participate in it. You’ll build confidence and skills that stay with you long after you come home.
Here’s a step-by-step guide:
Where do I start?
Step 1: Research
There are four main questions to consider when researching the best educational travel experience for you:
- What do you want to do?
- Where do you want to go?
- What is your budget? (our projects include all you need, excluding flights, visas, vaccinations, and insurance)
- When can you go?
You don’t need to know the answers to them (yet!), but having an idea can narrow down your search. You can filter our projects to be as specific as you like by age group, destination, and the type of work, using the button in the top right of the projects page.
Step 2: Get in touch
If you’re new or returning, we’re here to help. Whilst you’re free to book directly (Skip to Step 3) most people find that talking through their options makes all the difference.
Our dedicated team of Project Experts will help you find the perfect experience for you. They are there to answer your questions, suggest projects you might not have found, and to give you a feel for what to expect on the ground.
To get the most from this conversation, you should have answers to the four questions in Step 1 prepared (What, Where, Budget, Availability)
Get in touch via our Live Chat, Contact Us form, telephone, or by completing our project quiz to receive a personal response within two business days.
If you’re from a school, university, or business, our specialist Partnership Managers are ready to support you to design a project that meets your specific learning outcomes.
Step 3: Apply
Once you’ve chosen your project, complete the application form or apply over the phone and pay your deposit_amount deposit. Your deposit is taken off your final fee.
It’s best to get your application in as early as possible.
Read about the benefits of booking early. Clue: this includes more choice, securing your place on a popular project, cheaper flights, and more time to prepare.
We usually recommend applying at least three months before your departure but we have been known to work miracles, so please call us right away for any last-minute bookings!
Step 4: Confirmation
You’ll receive a confirmation email straight after applying. Then, we thoroughly check over your application form, just to make sure we have everything we need. This normally takes up to two working days.
After that, you’ll receive a welcome email, which is your cue to really get excited.
Step 5: Pre-departure
You will be assigned a knowledgeable Destination Expert, who will be your point of contact until your trip, armed with the knowledge you need to prepare you for your experience.
From culture to cuisine and everything in between, your Destination Expert will make sure you know exactly what to expect. They’ll even provide you with a list of what to pack.
Plus, you’ll get access to MyProjectsAbroad – a personalised online portal containing all the advice and details you need in writing. We’ll also use it to send you information on applying for a visa and getting vaccinations, if required.
Step 6: Payment
You’ll have already paid your deposit, so all that’s left to do is clear the remaining balance. You can pay online via MyProjectsAbroad, by bank transfer, or over the phone.
We know that life doesn’t always go to plan. That’s why we’ve made our booking process as flexible as possible.
With our risk-free booking guarantee, you can make unlimited changes to your project, destination, or dates free of charge within 24 months.
Step 7: Departure, arrival, and induction
We’ll give you a final call before you fly, then all you need to do is set off on your adventure.
When you arrive, a member of our staff will meet you at the airport holding a Projects Abroad sign, no matter the time. They’ll take you to your accommodation, make sure everything is okay, and support you to settle in.
You’ll receive a comprehensive induction and safety briefing so that you get to know the local area and have everything you need before you start your project.
Step 8: Learn and grow
Now, it’s over to you.
You’ll learn new things, build lifelong friendships, immerse in a new culture (or cultures), and contribute to positive global initiatives. Your trip is what you make it, so don’t be afraid to dive in head first – you really do get what you give.
And don’t worry, our staff are on hand 24/7 to help you if you need anything. They’re there to make sure you safely make memories to last a lifetime.
