Argentina arrival procedures

Home

Airport pickup, flights, and visas for your trip to Argentina

We have all the information you need to know for your trip, from helping with visa queries to walking you through a placement induction on your first day in Argentina. Our hassle-free approach means you can concentrate on what really matters, making a difference at your placement.

Arrival airport and pickup in Argentina

Whichever of our two locations in Argentina you choose, we’ll meet you at the airport and the cost of your transport to and from the airport is covered by Projects Abroad.

Cordoba

For most of our projects, you’ll fly into Cordoba International Airport (COR). A Projects Abroad staff member will be waiting to greet you when you arrive. You will then travel about half an hour to our Projects Abroad office, where you’ll be introduced to the team and shown around.

After this quick introduction, you’ll then be taken to your host family’s house, which is usually close by. You’ll be welcomed with open arms and a warm and generous meal!

Puerto Madryn

If you’re joining our Whale & Puma Conservation project in Patagonia, you should fly into El Tehuelche Airport (PMY).

Almirante Marcos A. Zar Airport (REL) in the city of Trelew is also an option, but takes 2 hours to travel to the wildlife reserve.  A staff member will meet you at whichever airport you choose.

Booking your flights to Argentina

Searching for flights online is easier than ever, but it can still be a time-consuming, overwhelming, and frustrating process. If you need support, our staff have in-depth knowledge of all our destinations. We’ll let you know which airport you’ll be flying to and recommend the best way to get there.

We can advise you on booking the best return flights, ensuring you have the safest, most convenient, and most cost-effective flight options, no matter how complex your travel plans are. Find out more about the flight booking process.

Visas requirements for your volunteer project or internship in Argentina

One of the perks of volunteering with us is the visa guidance we give you. We have a dedicated visa team who have up-to-date information on visa requirements for all of our destinations around the world. You can get in touch with us if you have any visa queries, big or small, and we will talk you through the process. Once you apply, you’ll also get a link to your own MyProjectsAbroad webpage, which will include all the necessary visa information.

There are several countries that are exempt from requiring an Argentinian visa. Individuals from such countries can visit without a pre-arranged visa for up to 90 days. Most volunteers from other countries will be able to secure a 90 day visa upon arrival at the airport at the cost of 100-200 USD.

Your induction and orientation in Argentina

On your first day in Argentina, a Projects Abroad staff member will meet up with you again to show you around. You’ll be given a detailed induction pack. The pack includes maps of where you’ll be living and important information like Projects Abroad staff contact details.

A Projects Abroad staff member will then show you around the area, and show you how to navigate the local bus system and catch taxis to get around.

All volunteers live in Cordoba City or in small towns nearby. You’ll have access to shops, internet cafes, banks, and anything else you may need.  On our Conservation project in Patagonia, you’ll be living together at the secluded La Esperanza reserve.

Your first day at your volunteer or internship placement in Argentina

In Cordoba, a Projects Abroad staff member will pick you up from your host family, and show you which bus you need to catch to get to your placement if. All of your work-related transportation costs will be covered by Projects Abroad.

On all projects, you will spend most of your first day getting to know your placement and meeting your colleagues. We’ll introduce you to your supervisor and the local staff. You will spend the rest of your day getting a feel for how things work and assimilating into your new placement.

Support, safety, and backup

Your safety and security is our prime concern. We have many procedures and systems to ensure you have the support you need to enjoy your trip with peace of mind. Our Projects Abroad staff are available 24 hours a day to help, and will be on-hand to make sure you settle in well at your accommodation and placement. If you encounter any problems, they will be available to help at any time.
