Summer is finally here and our staff are soaking up the sun, but it got us thinking: where should teen volunteers go if you’re looking to book now?
It might feel like it’s too late to book, but we promise that it’s not. We are actually well positioned to accept last-minute applications, so take this as your sign to have an incredible international experience before returning to school or college!
We have several projects running all summer, but to give you (and us) time to prepare, here are a few of our suggestions kicking off in August.
Fiji – Shark Conservation
Starting 2 August 2027
The place:
An archipelago of more than 300 islands in the South Pacific, Fiji is a multicultural hotspot with traditions dating back more than 3,500 years. It is the definition of island life, with a tropical climate, incredible beaches, and a laid-back, high-spirited culture.
The project:
One for the thrill seekers. Dive under the waves in the Pacific Ocean and come face-to-face with our ocean’s most misunderstood predators: sharks. Learn about their crucial impact on the ecosystem, plant mangroves to protect coastal ecosystems, and remove waste from sandy beaches.
The reason:
Sharks are vital to our oceans and you can help protect them. Not only will you get to survey shark populations on supervised shark dives, but you’ll also live in the heart of a local Fijian community and even earn a PADI diving qualification as part of your journey!
Ghana – Football coaching
Starting 2 August 2027
The place:
Ghana is known for incredible hospitality and friendliness with some of the nicest people you will ever meet. You’ll travel to the scenic Akuapem Hills, becoming deeply involved with the local community and living with a host family for full cultural immersion.
The project:
Take your passion for football to the world, coaching in a rural setting and working alongside local coaches to play, train, and organise tournaments. Also, switch your perspective and run the game as a referee, finding out exactly how hard it is to run the game from the pitch.
The reason:
Experience a new culture in a safe and supported environment along with other teenagers from around the world. Share your passion for football with children in a new setting, find out if sports coaching is something that interests you for the future, and gain a deeper understanding of our planet and its people.
P.S. We also have a Care & Community project kicking off in Ghana the week after. So, if you want more childcare and less football, that one could be more your style!
Mongolia – Medicine Internship
Starting 9 August 2027
The place:
The “Land of the eternal blue sky,” Mongolia is a fascinating country where a third of the population still live as nomads. With a culture influenced by this way of life, China to the south, and Russia to the north, you will experience something totally new and meet some incredible people.
The project:
Start your medical career off in style, working in hospitals alongside experienced doctors and nurses in the capital city, Ulaanbaatar. Shadow their daily rounds, learn crucial medical skills, and support community outreach programmes.
The reason:
This is the perfect project to find out whether medicine is truly the career for you, giving you exposure to work in a real hospital setting. You’ll enjoy a journey of self-discovery and cultural immersion, developing both your personal and professional skills. If you’re thinking of studying medicine in the future, this experience will help you stand out!
Cambodia – Childcare and Community
Starting 9 August 2027
The place:
Cambodia is a southeast Asian nation characterised by extraordinary resilience. Despite the horrors of its recent history, Cambodia is now a peaceful and welcoming country with a rich culture, light-hearted people, and a perfect mix of tradition and modernity.
The project:
One of our most popular experiences, and for good reason. Live and work in the local community on silk island, helping care for and teach children through fun games and lessons. You’ll fully immerse in the culture of Phnom Penh, living with other travellers your age, and even get the chance to explore the incredible Angkor Wat.
The reason:
This project is perfect if you’re looking for an exciting cultural experience away from home where you can work and laugh with children. You’ll not only get to experience the joy of working in education, you’ll also get to experience a new culture first hand, learning about the incredible history and culture of Cambodia.
Kenya – Conservation
Starting 9 August 2027
The place:
Kenya, in east Africa, is famous worldwide for safaris and the traditional savannah landscape. You’ll live and work in the incredible Soysambu conservancy alongside real conservation experts, experiencing life in this unique haven of wildlife.
The project:
Are you interested in working with animals? Fascinated by the incredible wildlife of Africa? Here, you’ll contribute towards the vital conservation efforts of endangered species, including giraffes and lions, by researching and monitoring their behaviour, removing invasive plant species, and maintaining vital waterholes.
The reason:
This project is perfect for animal lovers, giving you a great opportunity to disconnect from the modern world and immerse in the wilderness. You’ll gain real world conservation experience and get up close and personal with some of the planet’s most majestic creatures. You’ll likely see elephants, giraffes, lions, leopards, zebras, and much more. It’s a true once-in-a-lifetime experience.
